Years:
You gave me a glimpse of something grand.
You made me more than just a man.
You shine a light on my life so dark.
To heal a place in my aching heart!
To have your words wash my tears away.
To feel such love! From you each day!
I longed for things until I was very sad.
I wish for them, so I thought I was bad.
I felt foolish for dreaming, dreams of love.
Is our love going to fit me like a pair of gloves?
Is your love really beyond my wildest dream?
Is it as hopeless for me as I made it seem?
Why did I rate your love for so long?
Why did I not wake up and find you gone?
Why? Because these years you kept it strong!

Awww - that's love - when someone doesn't give up on you. Love every day - it's what makes the world bearable.
if more of that love existed, there would be fewer bitter sistas running around ;)
Not everyone has that kind of love. Lovely valentine to your wife, Ellis.
What an inspiration for me, Ellis! F. & I are approaching our one-year anniversary, and my mom recently told me marriage is all about "just hanging in there and loving no matter what." Your poem would seem to convey the same message -- albeit more beautifully. :)
"Why did I rate your love for so long?"
I love this line.
Now, THAT's what I'm talking about love. Lasting.
Lynn mentions in her comment you have a wife -- awesome. So many sad poems I thought you were single. Little did I know!
Happy day.
xo

Wow welcome back thought you run away.
Not too sure on (no matter what) but hanging in there, is good in the not so good times.

Do we not ask that when we think of all the things we’ve done to each other.
Jannie:
Married for 35 years to one woman. She was my first and will be my last. Poetry is just that poetry.dark or light there just words.

A big hearty thanks
Devotion is kdy, isn't it? This is a dear and delightful poem, Ellis. Read it over twice ...
Well done ...
Jamie:
To be devoted and hold on to the one you love is good as long as the one you’re holding is being good back. One-sided love will kill itself quickly.
